Surviving the Police Officer Oral Interview - Willingness Questions

During the course of your police oral interview, you must understand the importance of being able to tell the board that you are willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done on the streets (both personally and professionally).

I can't begin to tell you how many people fail their oral board interview because they lack a basic understanding of what we do and how we do it. Willingness questions are designed to find out if you are truly prepared for what you're going to encounter when you work a position in law enforcement. These are things you should consider before stepping foot into your oral board interview.

Some good example of a willingness question are:

- Are you prepared to work any shift?
- Are you prepared to work holidays and weekends?
- Are you prepared to work unscheduled overtime that could interfere with your personal life?
- Are you prepared to deal with foul smells and gruesome sights?

There are many others of these types of questions and they are perhaps some of the most important questions on the police oral interview because they deal directly with your willingness and ability to do the job.

Understand that if you are not prepared to work any shift given to you...if you are not prepared to patrol the streets while your family is at home enjoying Christmas together, then you will likely be passed for the next qualified applicant who is. Be prepared for these types of questions because they can "make or break" your chances at successfully passing your oral board interview.

Hi,

Thanks for sharing information on police officer's oral interview questions.

To become a police officer one needs to pass the written exam which is the initial test given by the police department. Look for practice police tests in your local bookstore. If you cannot find one in your area look for it in the internet.
