Could You Benefit From Teaching in the Nail Industry?

There are some jobs that you usually do not consider and when you are a nail technician, teaching is one of them! However, if you have worked within a salon environment for at least three years then you may just be qualified to help others. Whether it be on a part time or a full time basis, you could potentially benefit from teaching students more about the nail industry and the products within it.

Understanding the Different Opportunities Available

If you are interested in teaching then you have a number of options open to you. You can:

* Work on a self employed basis for a local college or university
* Work for a nail product company
* Professionally train full time at a local university

Teaching on a part time basis for a local college or for a nail product company will be a lot more laid back than teaching professionally. You will also need fewer qualifications and less experience if you choose to teach with nail product companies. So it really depends upon what your teaching intentions are as to which option you should choose. Would you still like to continue being a nail technician or would you prefer to move on to full time teaching? If so then there are a number of requirements that you will need to meet.

Nail product companies often hire self employed nail technicians to train throughout the country. Many times this training is related to the products that they sell. So it could be training regarding the proper use of nail equipment or it could be training in how to correctly use different nail accessories. If you have three years experience within the field then you are usually qualified to apply for these types of training jobs. They can make you a good additional income and you can also continue to be a self employed nail technician.

If you would prefer to take a more professional route then you should have five years experience before you can gain an Assessors qualification. You will also need to look for a training job before you can complete the Assessors qualification as it requires you to have some teaching experience.

Overall it will take a lot of training and hard work if you would like to become a professional teacher. However, if you would just like to train students on a part time basis to earn some additional income then you will simply need qualifications such as NVQ's in a nail specific sector.
