Right now, jobs are scarce and many companies have gone out of business or are busy cutting back. A surprising number of national chain stores have gone bankrupt and this leaves the job situation a bleak one for many. Of all the job seekers this summer, teens will have the least experience and be at the greatest disadvantage.
A fair number of companies that have jobs that can go to teens, like to help them out over the summer months by giving them jobs. This might not be the case this year as many of those jobs might have been eliminated or might be going to adults this year instead. It is great that companies like to help out teenagers who are work oriented but now with the economic crisis, they just might not be able to do that. Priority has to go to the adults who have bills to pay and families to feed.
Those teens who are not able to get jobs this summer will have a hard time adjusting and figuring out what to do. The more enterprising of them might try to make some money on their own by doing things such as lawn mowing but most of them will have a lot of free time with nothing to do. Hopefully they won't spend that time getting into trouble and find something productive to do with their time.
