The first thing you need to know is that the questions aren't going to measure your aptitude. They really don't care about that. They have no desire to see you memorize things, so they won't be asking you useless information. They want to know how you'll be on the job, so that's how their questions will be. They'll ask application oriented questions. That just means they'll give you a scenario and ask you what you'll do. It's about the most efficient form of questioning that they can do.
Police officer testing is also done under a specific time restriction, meaning you only have so much time to finish questions. This can put a lot of pressure on people, but I find if you practice answering questions on your own time with a stopwatch, you can get used to it.
