The system works.
After struggling to absorb a stockpile of how-to guides spewed our way, like getting spit on by every Company we've solicited isn't enough, we now have this arduous task of attempting to make sense from it as we suffer heartburn and headache.
The system works only if we allow it to enter our presence. Today I was to attend a Teleclass--sort of like a conference call on steroids. The phone number I received from the moderator was incorrect. Remember flexibility is key here; always be willing and able to adjust your schedule. If you were in the middle of a project and you got called for an interview, you'd run like a bat out of hell, right? Sometimes I feel like a bat in hell with nowhere to go so I welcome those last-minute changes. So, on to my next item for the day. My phone rang--a close friend of mine. After his workflow came to a screeching halt, he decided to give new life to a project he had been working on as a hobby years ago. He is now taking it to the next level by developing it utilizing the latest technologies at our immediate disposal. Kind of what I have been saying all along.
Having said that, this valued friend is an established, award-winning writer. I, on the extreme other hand, am not. He called me for some assistance with his project in areas that I can be of some guidance. It also helps using each other as sounding boards. I have plenty of ideas and thoughts to put on these pages; he was able to ventilate and breathe some new life into many of them. That's what he does. And he plans to send me an invoice for $634.93--of course a discounted rate. I asked for a payment plan...can't afford his 22% APR. Nuts! But I digress...
The Art of Helping One Another Find Work.
Had that Teleclass phone number worked, I would have missed his call and precious time working matters out would have been lost. Luck-of-the-draw does manifest itself here, but play them to your advantage. Again, let me stress the priceless impact our network has on what we do in life. It works, and if you stay with it, an increase in productive professional exploration will come your way. Do not be afraid, intimidated or put-off in thinking about calling your friends. They honestly understand and have, most likely, gone through job loss themselves at some point.
If we aren't here to help one another, what is human survival all about? We would subsist in this often cruel and hateful planet unaccompanied. My father loved classical music. My mother loves theatre. Did J.S. Bach play every instrument and conduct? He did in his mind which added to its beauty, but we can't hear or see that caliber of brilliance so he was able to put it down on paper for all of us to enjoy. Does Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Phantom" fly solo? The preeminent triumphs in our history books are only fully realized by way of teamwork. Traditional art that you see on a wall was probably painted by one person--and there are quite a number of famous ones. But they all had subjects.
We must be able to motivate and inspire one another to do great things via facilitating. You and I are the ones who must start that ball rolling. Just remember, once you get the ball rolling, constantly keep your eye on the ball.
