What Does a Pharmacy Technician Do?

In our ever growing society, occupations bloom every single day. In the medical field, there are numerous job opportunities that arises; some which require tip top professionalism while others just learn through their jobs. An example of the latter would be a pharmacy technician.

He is one who assists a licensed pharmacist with in-house jobs such as opening and maintaining the patient's profiles, dispensing medication, labeling medication, formulating and so on. To hold this job, you do not need to go through medical school or obtain multiple degrees, hence, the job is limited as you would not be allowed to offer medical advice of your own to patients.

This occupation varies in duties but has got the same restrictions. In most cases, the technician is required to check the pharmacies records and keep it up to date, check the medicinal stocks, hold appointments and help the pharmacist double check medication given and fill in the prescriptions.

In addition to that, they would also dispense pills and liquids and thereafter creating labels for the medication as well. Also, the pharmacy technician can organize records, charts, tables and data on the computer systems to make sure everything runs smoothly. He would also be the one to know which medication is running low in stock and place new orders.

Aside from that, in hospitals, the job of the technician would be to assist the nurses, assemble prescription packets, administer charts, and give out medication to patients. In such cases, it is not allowed for the pharmacy technician to deal with medication distribution unsupervised by a licensed pharmacist. This is just for safety measures.

In conclusion, such a job is indeed an important one that comes with a good salary. Although you don't need to go through years of medical school, you have to learn fast through your job and gain as much experience as you can to go higher in position.
