The Police Sergeants Exam

I want to take the time to talk to you about the police sergeants exam that you'll be forced to take if you want to get promoted in the police force. Most people think that if they have the experience, that it will be easy to pass this exam. I think that is a perfectly reasonable thought, but it's not the way it works. I've seen this exam completely destroy people that were excellent officers. It's almost sad in a way. This isn't like a traditional exam you would have taken. It is designed to be hard and really test you. I'm going to talk to you about the police sergeants exam.

The first that you need to understand is that this test will mark you on more than just the questions. When you move up the ranks to sergeant, you're going to have much more important duties.

One of the big duties you'll have is writing work and going over reports of other officers. You literally have to have the skills of an English teacher in high school. Your writing has to be excellent and you also have to make sure the officers below you are writing their reports properly too. They'll be looking to see if your writing on the test is perfect.

The police sergeants exam is also interested in public relations and your ability to properly handle yourself. When the media interviews someone in the police force, they're always going to talk to a senior officer like a sergeant. You have to know how to properly conduct yourself, share the right information and not embarrass the department.
